It was created in June, 2001, shortly after Pam was diagnosed, and registered over 30,000 hits to her Journal over the next 17 months, until her death on November 24, 2002. More than 1500 entries were made to Pam's Guest Book by family, friends, and by those who met her only briefly, up to the date of her death. Background: Pam discovered an odd lump under the skin on her back, and had it checked. Because of the characteristics of the lump, the lump was removed and biopsied. The results indicated that it was melanoma, and since it was under the skin (as opposed to on the surface), Pam immediately underwent a series of tests to see if the cancer had spread to other areas of her body. The test results showed that she had tumors in her brain, lung, liver & lymph glands. Subsequent testing confirmed the diagnosis of Stage IV melanoma. She met with cancer specialists in Pittsburgh, PA, and they agreed upon a course of treatment. Radiation would be used on the tumor in her brain, and chemotherapy would commence on July 9, 2001, in Pittsburgh. In the midst of all of this, Pam celebrated her 40th birthday. For what happened thereafter, please feel free to read her Journal. This page was last updated on 11/23/03. |
