[1400] Pam: It's interesting to read your comments on the "medical injustice system". From a practitioner, such as yourself, it probably comes as a bit of shock to see what the rest of us poor mortals have been dealing with for years, despite appeals for clemency. We pray for you every day for the best outcome, and we won't stop now. Frank/Joan LM
Here's to prayer power! Evie Miller
Pam, we are praying as instructed. Love, Julia
Ok you got me praying again. All the best John G Duncan
Hi Pam, So sorry for your last few days. And as awful as it read, we know that it had to be so much worse living it. Thank you for sharing it with all of us. This whole ordeal is brutal and feeling helpless is not easy for such an independent person like yourself. As much as you feel you are not holding up, you are still breaking the odds every single day. And you keep fighting because we are all praying for you and faith goes a long way. Be a good patient, take your temp and do whatever it takes (even if it's 4hrs worth) to know that you are ok. All of our love, Ronni, Dave and the boys.
Hi Pam, I am so sorry for your fiasco last night. I was torn between laughing (as your story detailed the massacre of the trash can and the potty), or crying when you could not get yourself up and not able to get help. I know that had to be frightening. I am glad you had your fever checked out, thrilled that you are not infected. That was a worthwhile 4 hrs spent. So are you here in C'ville for a while? How long do you have to wait before knowing whether you will do another round of chemo? Rest. Mom, you rest some too. May you be surrounded by angels. Love , Katie S.
Pam, your fiasco on the floor sounds like one of those Three Stooges movies. Hope you can laugh at it now, although I'm sure it wasn't laughable at the time. Hang in there will all your tribulations. You really are an inspiration at keeping up these journal entries. Evie Miller
Hi Pam, DUH! Stephan had good reasons for you to go to the ED if you developed a fever! What is your cell count? Are you infected? Should you be on antibiotics until cultures come back....which of course won't come back because you didn't go to the ED to get evaluated, as asked. I read along each day so proud of you grit and determination then I read an entry like yours of 11/5 and my jaw drops. I hope you remain "bone cold" until you take good care of yourself and have your fever checked out. Mom can do so much for you but you have to make good decisions too. Gracious, forgive my outburst but please take good care of yourself Pam. Always turn things around to see if your thinking is straight. If one of your sisters or mom had your disease and had your symptoms would you allow them to wait an extra day or so before getting help?? My love and prayers are with you and your family. Now get thee to the doctor, and that doesn't mean go look into the bathroom mirror! Love Katie S.
Hi Pam, nothing new in the ER lately, but thought you'd like to hear that directly from a reliable source. Your social life and travel greatly exceed mine. Don't forget Buzz Lightyear's memorable quote about falling...with style. Love you! Julia
Hang in there! Take pillows and blankets for the trip back to VA, and just take it easy. Drive carefully, Mom. Love, Tammy
Hi Pam,
I was so pleased to see you at the reunion and so moved that you wanted to be there. I've been thinking of you often since then, and you will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I really love that your sense of humor is as intact as always. Keep fighting! I'll keep in touch. Joan Zeidman
Hi Pam. We do have the best Mom in the whole world, don't we! I wanted you to know that many people ask me about you everyday, and are exchanging their now frayed ribbons for the nice pins that Kat got. I'm always thinking of you, and love you, Barb
Dear Pam: I sent an email yesterday before I realized that I could communicate through the guest book. I wanted you to know that we were really happy that you came to the reunion.. I hope you had a good time in spite of the trouble getting there and the fact that our class turnout was so low. I will stay in touch and try to check in regularly. Best wishes and love. Nancy Rosenblatt Markus
Pam, You may have been one of twenty, of the the 180 in your class at the reunion, but you're one in a million to me. Keep fighting!! Love, Connie
Pam, You may have been one of twenty, of the the 180 in your class at the reunion, but you're one in a million to me. Keep fighting!! Love, Connie
Hi Pam, I am so glad you made it to the reunion. It was good that you missed happy hour because your fine balance of meds would have been knocked right over with the addition of alcohol and you wouldn't have enjoyed the rest of the evening. I think you have the greatest mom in the whole world. Give her a big hug from me for helping you through all of this and with the excitement of asking what's next!? I know where you get that positive attitude and kick butt energy! My love and prayers are with you and your family, Katie S.
Hi Pam, So sorry you had a seizure at the reunion, but the important thing is that you got there and saw so many of your classmates. Hang in there and get plenty of rest after such a trip. Prayers, Vivian
Pam, I am so glad that you got to your reunion. I read your journal first and nothing there. Your sweet Mom let the cat out of the bag. We all prayed that you would be able to go and have a great time. If I can help you here at the lake, call. Keep hanging in. You have to have a new goal. What shall it be. Take care. Vivian
I had a good time at your reunion last night (once we found the place). I enjoyed meeting your classmates, and was especially grateful to Francesca for helping us out. She seems like a great person! I'm glad we did it. What will we look forward to next? Love you loads, Mom
Hey Pam, I hope you have a great time at your reunion. Just think about how much fun it will be to see everyone and to catch up on all the happenings. Think positive. Bless your Mom, too. She's such a trooper. Have fun and we'll see ya when you come back to the Lake. Love and prayers, Marilyn and Dorothy
Have a great time at your reunion. Tammy
Hi Pam, Have a great reunion on Saturday Where is that positive attitude? If you are concerned about a seizure interupting your celebration, decide now what medication adjustments you will make, and spend time anticipating the fun you will have with your friends! I would LOVE to catch up with my medical school friends!! Have a blast. Love, Katie S.
Happy Halloween! We missed having you here this year to help us give out candy. After two Fall Festivals (church and school) and a little trick or treating in the neighborhood (yes, this was all in one night) we have LOTS of candy. And since you weren't here giving candy out while I was out with the kids, we have LOTS MORE candy. Wish you were here! Love, Tammy
Hey, stop that kind of thinking. You are in PA and you will be going to your reunion. You are a very positive thinker so get back on the track, go and have a ball. Barb Godfrey
Dear Pam, Hang in there. Enjoy your reunion, but don't try to overdo it. Hope to see you next week. Love, Mernie
Pam, Mind over matter - we'll all wish for you to feel up to going to the reunion and if you join us it's sure to happen. Mom's are truly wonderful! (and I'm not saying that cuz I am one). . That Mrs Turtle is something else! Good luck! - Ronni
You have to go to the reunion no matter how horrible you feel.
Regards
John G Duncan
Hi Pam, I am sorry you feel so rotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you and hope tomorrow you feel better. It's tough to take things one day at a time when today feels just awful. I hope tomorrow you feel like eating prime rib with a giant baked potatoe. (Hope I didn't make you nauseated mentioning that today.) Tomorrow will be better. Love Katie S.
Dear Pam, I'm praying. You continue to amaze me! You give a gift to others daily with your strength. Jennifer Erb
Hey Pam! Sorry the meds are making you sick. Please be honest with all of us out here. It's OK to admint when you need help and feel lousy. It totally sucks when your body does stuff that you don't cause. It's one thing to hurt after you fall down the stairs, but when your body does spazzy things on it's own, it can be VERY frustrating. Still praying, in Texas. Evie Miller
Hi Pam, Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you. You've received a lot of good advise in this guest book. Katie S. has the right idea. Remember...superwoman...you're going through so much, you need your rest so your body can fight back and get better. Take care. Love, Connie & Marty
'MOTHER KNOWS BEST!" Barb Godfrey
HI PAM ITS TRACEY RUSH. SOUNDS LIKE THINGS ARE A LITTLE ROUGH!! JUST TO LET YOU KNOW I AM THINKING OF YOU!! YOU ARE SUCH AN INSPIRATION IN THE WAY YOU ARE HANDLING THIS BUT JUST LIKE YOUR MOM SAID YOU DON 'T ALWAYS HAVE TO TELL US YOU ARE FINE!! HANGING IN THERE IS AGREAT WAY TO LET US KNOW THAT YOUR SPIRIT IS STLL THERE!! I JUST THOUGHT OF YOU THE OTHER DAY GOING THROUGH SOME OF ASHLEYS WINTER CLOTHES AND FOUND THE COAT WE BOGHT HER WHEN WE WENT TO THE MOVIES AND SHOPPING REMEMBER?? ASHLEY ALWAYS THOUGHT YOU WERE SO COOL!! ( SHE STILL DOES!!!) SHE JUST HAD HOMECOMING THIS WEEK SHE SURE ISN'T THAT LITTLE GIRL THAT WE TOOK TO THE MOVIES THAT DAY ANYMORE SHE HAS TURNED OUT BEAUTIFUL IF I MUST SAY SO!! TAKE CARE I THINK OF YOU OFTEN AND YOU ARE IN MY PRAYERS!! LOVE TRACEY!!P.S. HANG IN THERE!!
Pam, Your Mom is right. It takes too much effort to tell folks you are fine when you feel anything but that. Use your energy to "hang in there" and keep on fighting while the rest of us keep on praying.Vivian
Pam - We think about you everyday and keep you in our thoughts and prayers. You are quite the fighter and we are glad you are "hanging in there". Ann & Ralph
Dear Pam,
Sounds like you are going through hell. You are really brave and courageous to be "hanging in there". I hope and pray you get some improvement. Love, S. Ruffini
Dear Pam, There is nothing worse that nausea and vomiting. You are very courageous, but take the anti nausea meds and the chemo and lay down and rest while the medicine fights those cancer cells. If you can render yourself almost unconscious with the medications during the time when the side affects will be at their worse, time may pass more quickly for you and maybe you won't remember feeling so sick. Go into deep sleep and know the chemo is attacking the cancer and our prayers are there supporting you and aiding in the attack! You are surrounded by love, Pam. Hang in there girl!Love Katie S.
Hey Dr. Pam, I am right up the street and available to help you any time you need it. Remember our phone numbers are just one off from each other. I have plenty of on the spot baby sitters that can stay with the children when you need help. Love you, Missy
Pam,So sorry you are having so many problems. If you would like any books, tapes or videos from the library, I would be happy to get them for you and deliver to the door. So happy your Mom is back again. Mom's make a lot of difference. I think that you are trying to be too independent. That is what friends are for. If I can do anything at all please call or have your Mom call. Prayers come your way. Vivian K 589-5162
Dear Pam, I feel so useless up here. Wish I could help you in your times of need. Bless Margie for all she is able to do. Is your trip to PA still on? I, too, hope to visit you when we are at Massanutten with Janie & Fred 11/2-11/8. Love you. Aunt Mernie (Margie & Janie's baby sister - for those who care to know.)
Pam, Oiy, what a night! Sure wish we were closer (we're often up throughout the nite, so would be no biggee to come and help). So very glad you got to Mom and Pops. Well at least the dinner tasted good going down! Hope the new chemo does the trick to those little cancer devils and that the side effects are not too wearing. Always in our thoughts and prayers- Ronni and Dave
I love KatieS. comment. Why cook if you don't have to? My sentiments also. I know you and your Mom are headed back to God's country for your reunion - Will be in touch when you are here. Barb Godfrey
Oh Pam, what a night! Good grief. So glad the Colvilles' are nearby to help, and your mom arrived a bit sooner than expected. We are praying that this new experimental med. delivers you out of some of this uncertainty. Love, Frank/Joan (LM)
10/25 Pam, I like the comments from Katie S. Wish we could be there to fill in, but you have a lot of support locally. Call on them. Just returned from Maine and reunion with your 1st cousins once removed (how about that figuring?) Had many thoughts and prayers for you and your beating this thing, and the HUGS from the other Janie. Hope to see you in a couple weeks when we are at Massanutten, not far from you, prior to heading to NC for another family reunion (memorial service.) Hang in there. Love, Janie (your aunt, your mother Margie's sister. You know who I am, but most of your readers don't know the relationship.)
10/25 Pam - Hang it there. Praying the medicine helps!! - Chris
Hi Pam, I seem to recall that you had brain surgery just two weeks ago. I was totally amazed that you were out of the hospital so quickly and back to trying to be the independent woman that you are. Frankly I don't remember you trying to cook for yourself or be alone during even the earliest times after you were diagnosed. Allow yourself time for healing. Don't push yourself so hard. If for some reason you don't have plans for dinner with someone decide who you want to be with and call that person, they will be thrilled that you thought of them and they'll have you over. I am excited for you that you are going to try the new chemo. You've got the gusto to withstand the side affects and I'll bet you will be in the 30% of the responders. You are in my prayers for healing and for strength, you are surrounded by love. Katie S.
As we've discussed before, you and I are planners, solvers, and action-oriented. I'm glad you have a plan now. Does this mean the trip to Mom's is postponed? Love, Tammy
Pam, Good luck with your new chemo. I think and pray for you daily. I really wish I could come and see you. Jim
Pam, I so wish you lived closer. I'll come down for a while to be with you. Let me know what your schedule is after being at your parents house. Let me know- Love Ronni
I'm glad your mom is coming back. You have been very strong through this whole ordeal, but there are times in all our lives when we need to stop trying to be heroes and let the people who love us know that we need their help. Don't make us read between the lines. Ask for what you need. (And try Stouffer's microwaveable meals for those few times you don't have dinner invitations.) Love, Tammy
Pam, when I read yesterday's entry, I wanted to go down there and bring you up here! I wish I could take more time off to help you, but was relieved that Mom will be coming down. Hang in there, and know that your Reunion is only 11 days away. Love you, Barb.
Hi Pam, Unless you love to cook, why bother! Your right arm may need some therapy, but you are left handed and I know you can manage the phone call to whatever deliverable food you want. When I try to "fancy up" the boring rice or pasta that my kids want, I realize my cooking skills leave allot to be desired and I usually don't want it either. Have the numbers of whatever deliverable food you like ready by the phone, and bon appetit!! Love Katie S.
Pam, Maybe you should try some of the gourmet meals my boys enjoy - remember them... Pasta (boil in water), butter (or margerine) and ketchup (the Jewish marinara sauce). Always a big hit at our house. Oh any pasta will do. A can of LeSeur Peas nuked and you're all set. If that's not your thing there's always toaster- grill cheese sandwiches... (no muss, no fuss, no grilling!). Let us know if you need more recipes. We got a million of these yummy dishes.(hang in!) Love, Ronni
Dear Pam, Happy Monday Morning! Sorry about the dinner fiasco, or is that just a way to get your friends and neighbors to keeping feeding you? At least you tried. Do your exercises, or you won't be able to swing the golf clubs when the time comes. Prayers. Mernie
Hi Pam, It makes me smile to read your journal entries. Your energy is amazing. I, as one of your loyal readers, who has not seen you physically in a long time, see you as you looked when we worked together. I love having you describe what you are going to eat or what you just ate. It all sounds wonderful. With small kids I eat boring pasta or rice daily and long to be able to go out to eat some of the wonderful foods that you get to eat. You sound happy and bright. Enjoy your bubble baths and dinners out with friends. My prayers continue to be with you, Pam. Love Katie S.
Cool scoop on the hair. I was wondering about that on the way home the other day. I imagine it is a tad bit frustrating to have you hair finally grow back, only to have surgery and have them shave it half off. Glad you are feeling better. Evie Miller
Keep thinking positive - you are proof it works Barb and Russ Godfrey
Hey..great news, but did we expect anything less? Of course not. We know you. Way to go! Arlene
You go girl! You have earned a bubble bath (drought or not!). Keep your faith in the progress that different medical treatments can do for you because you have an amazing ability to recover. And if the meds keep the seizures away - then don't sweat it- mange! Just enjoy! Love ya, Ronni
Thanks for the clarification by Kat regarding the food. I agree whole-heartedly that it is the medicine (from experience) and not to worry about it so much. As long as you are eating good food (as it sounds like you are) and are starting to get the exercise in, you're fine. Are you drinking lots of water? Many of us Heywoods have a tendency to balloon below the waist anyway -- blame it on the genes -- we will all understand and identify with you! Keep up the good progress that you are making!! your cuz' Laura
10/16 From the messages, I see that the surgery went well and that you are home. Hope the recovery at home goes as well. Mae Layne, Viv's mom
Pam - you keep poking fun at yourself for the amount of food you eat. But I was with you for a few days, and matched you bite for bite! I even ordered (and ate all of) the LARGER prime rib dinner. I therefore felt the need to defend you, and to clarify these things for your loyal readers. It isn't that you eat too much or too rich of foods, it is that darn medicine! But, hey, that medicine is keeping you alive, so I guess I won't malign it too much. I'm so happy that your surgery went as well as it did. You continue to amaze me. Love, Kat
Hi, Pam, just returned from Cape Cod where it rained most of the weekend! We were happy to hear that your surgery went well. Sending you and your mom our love, prayers and GREAT BIG HUGS!! Janie Matthews
Pam - I was glad to hear your recent surgery went well. I'm sorry I haven't written in awhile. To be honest, the month of September flew by as Mia turned three and her school started. Now that things have settled down a bit I promise to be more diligent again with my journal readings. I'm going to give Fish a ring this week so that perhaps we can coordinate a visit. My thoughts, as always, are with you and your family. Love, Beantown Drew.
Hi Pam. Memphis is 20 inches above normal in the rainfall department...looks like it's either feast or famine! JER
Hi Pam. Are you wonder woman or something of that sort? Was so happy to hear of your fast exit from the hospital. It sounds like you are doing super. I've been away for a couple of days so last I heard you were just barely out of ICU. When's the next prime rib gathering? See ya soon, marilyn
Thanks for the birthday wish. Please tell Barb I said hello and that 43 is just as good as 42. Glad you are home and getting around. Evie Miller
Hi Pam, I finally made it to your web site. This is really something! I believe I heard something about you having surgery in the near future. If that's right, I hope you continue beating the odds. We are all very proud of you. Much love & many prayers for strength & recovery, Patty Workman (from Grace & Glory LC)
10/12 Dear Pam, To early for today's entry, but it was great talking to you this afternoon. Your progress is fantastic. Keep up the good work! So pleased that my sister can spend so much time with you. (Sorry Carl.) We will continue with the prayers. Love, Mernie

Grrrrreat News !!
(clap, clap, clap) and the crowd goes wild !!
--- love, your cuz' Laura
Way to go Dr. Pam. I knew the power of prayer and love would help. Thanks so much for stopping by on Sunday. You caught me at my finest. The children have had the most beautiful prayers for you this week. Julianna is concerned about your hair, but her comment was "the soul is beautiful with or without hair, right?" Warm hugs, good thoughts and prayers for you and the family. Love, Missy
Yo Pam - Glad to hear that your surgery went well. You have been in our prayers, and we ask God to bring his healing power upon you. Hurry and get better, and we can't wait to see you in church again. Love, Joe & Patty Shaver
Pam- I am so glad to see your entries! I knew everything would go well. I'm also glad to see that everyone made it there safely. I had a little problem yesterday, and I can blame it on you! Charlie & I stopped in to see our State House Representative at Harrisburg yesterday. I didn't know it, but they had installed a metal detector at the front entrance. I put my purse down and went through. As I started to walk away, this HUGE man walked in front of me and asked if I was carrying anything metal. I said no, and he pulled this wand out, and started wave it up & down. When he got it to my left side, just to the right of my shoulder, it beeped. I was wearing your pin! I laughed, and I guess he wasn't too worried, because he let me go. And now Stan Saylor, our Rep., knows about you, too. Take care, everyone. lolta Marcia G
Way to go, Pam. What a woman!!! Barb and Russ Godfrey
Good Job Pam. Keep up the good work. Jim
Hey Pam. Great news about the surgery. With all those prayers, how could it not go well? Fortunately, Joan called me last night after she heard from your Mom that things went well. Later when I went to the Journal, I couldn't get your entry (same problem I've had before) but I could tell from the guest entries that some people could see it. Anyway, with all my "refreshes" I had the honor of recording number 25,000 (and 01 and 02,etc.) in the journal. Feel like I should try the lottery!! We'll do prime rib again in celebration. Take care and remember mom and I will keep thinking about you and praying for you, marilyn
(10/10) YEA, HOORAY, I'm am so happy for you and your great determination!!!. I was up at UVA early Wed. morning for a lecture and you came to mind. I asked God to please send angels to protect you and some to guide the surgeons. With all of us in prayer I knew you would come through it. I am so happy I could cry : ) but I'll smile and give thanks instead. Go Girl!! Love Katie S.
Pam, You are truly an inspiration!!!! I wish I had even 50% of your strength, constitution and sense of humor. I had missed the news of your surgery on Wed. buy I thank God for your recovery and wonderful attitude. I hope you'll soon be eating all the food you love and enjoying friends, family and lots of fun again.. Thank you Dr. Shaffrey, too! Take care Pam, Kathy T.
Pam, you are my hero. Love, Kat
Glad to see your journal entry after your surgery. Way to Go! I'm going to bet you DO make it to church on Sunday. You have quite a strong constitution to have made it through all you have so far. Evie Miller
Pam, You are amazing! Keep up the great attitude. You are truly an inspiration! Hope you make it to church, but if not, I'm sure God will understand. Praying for you, Jennifer Erb

Pam - we are very glad to know that the surgery is behind you. With your focus one day at a time now, we are sure you will amaze even more with your future journal entries. Ann & Ralph (of course you know that Ralph never writes any entries but I do share them with him)
Pam, You have to be the strongest person I know. Going through all you did today, and still dictating an entry for the journal. We all appreciate the wonderful update. I wish I could be there to give you a big (gentle) hug. Dr. Shaffrey deserves big thank you hugs too. You keep getting better and we'll keep up the prayers. Love, Connie & Marty

All of your friends and family are thinking positive, and so it shall be . . . (have I told you lateley -- attitude is everything) Lots of Love, your cuz' Laura
